VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT (EXTERNAL)

STAFF VACANCIES

Ada College of Education, Ada, is a Public Tertiary Education Institution established in 1965. It was later upgraded into Tertiary Status by an Act of Parliament in 2012 (Act 847). The College is currently affiliated to the University of Education, Winneba (UEW). Applications are hereby invited from suitably qualified applicants to fill the following staff.

1. VICE PRINCIPAL

Responsibilities and Duties

  1. The Vice Principal shall assist the Principal in the overall management, academic, administration and disciplinary issues of the College in accordance with the Colleges of Education Act 2012 (Act 847) and other regulatory provisions governing the Colleges of Education and in relation to the oversight responsibility of the Governing Council of the College.
  2. Perform functions assigned by the Principal of the College
  3. Act in the absence of the Principal of the College among others

Qualifications and Experience

Applicant must have good character and high degree of personal integrity and must be a Distinguished master teacher and scholar in Teaching and Learning and must be at least a Principal Tutor in the College of Education.

Applicant must have at least five (5) years relevant post-qualification experience in a senior Management position with good knowledge and understanding of the challenges facing the Colleges of Education in particular and Tertiary Education in Ghana in general and be ready to propose measures to mitigate them.

The applicant should be able to complete one term of three (3) years before attaining the Compulsory retirement age of sixty (60) years.

Tenure of Office

The Vice Principal shall hold office for a period of three (3) years and may be eligible for re-appointment for another term only.

2. COLLEGE SECRETARY

Responsibilities and Duties

The College Secretary is the Head of the Office of the College Secretariat. He/She shall assist the Principal in the administration and management of the College. He/She is the Secretary to the College Council, all Committees of Council as well as all Statutory Committees of the College. It shall be the responsibility of the College Secretary to ensure the functioning of all Boards and Standing Committees of the College. The Office of the College Secretary is in charge of all administrative, secretarial and personnel matters of the College.

Qualifications and Experience

  1. Applicant must hold a good First Degree and A Postgraduate Degree preferably in Administration and Management related area.
  2. He/She must have served as a Deputy Secretary in a College of Education or Senior Assistant Registrar in a tertiary institution or comparable grade in a similar institution/organization for at least four (4) years.
  3. Applicant must be capable of planning, organizing, and implementing and administratively manage all activities related to the office of the College Secretary.
  4. Applicant must have considerable knowledge, experience and understanding of the tertiary education structures and environment in general.

Tenure of Office

The Secretary of the College shall hold office for a term of four (4) years and may be eligible for re-appointment for another term only, provided that no part of the second term enters the compulsory retirement age.

3. COLLEGE FINANCE OFFICER

The Finance Officer’s position is a top management position heading a major division of the College and responsible to the Principal for the Financial Administration of the College.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Is the Chief Accounting Officer of the College and the Chief Financial Advisor to the Principal;
  2. Has general responsibility for the administration of the financial affairs of the College that will ensure its financial health and he/she exercises direct superintendence over all accounting officers;
  3. Is responsible for collecting all legitimate revenue due to the College;
  4. Exercises control over expenditure in line with the College’s objectives and budgets;
  5. Has the duty of preparing the annual budget of the College for presentation to the appropriate governing body for approval and implementation;
  6. Is also responsible for ensuring that the financial statements of the College are drawn up in accordance with the law establishing the Colleges, the Statutes, applicable accounting standards and all other Regulations approved by the College as well as all other relevant national laws; and
  7. Liaises with the appointed external auditors to get the College’s financial statements audited.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicant must hold a good first degree or comparable qualification plus a professional

Qualification and a master’s degree in Finance would be appropriate. He/She must have served as a Deputy Finance Officer in a College of Education or comparable grade in a similar Institution/organization for at least four (4) years. In addition, applicant must:

  1. Be analytical, critical, result-oriented, innovative and visionary;
  2. Possess hands-on liability to work independently;
  3. Possess excellent communication, interpersonal and supervisory skills;
  4. Be a good team player;
  5. Possess strong IT skills and familiarity with accounting software’
  6. Be able to work under pressure to meet deadlines; and
  7. Possess proactive commercial flair.
