The College Conference Room came alive with literary creativity on Tuesday, 14 April 2026, as 116 Level 300 Upper Primary Education students participated in the second edition of the Supplementary Readers Assessment and Exhibition Colloquium.
Building on the success of last year’s inaugural event, this year’s exhibition featured 12 student groups presenting original short novels, poetry collections, and drama scripts.
Defence and Artistry
Beyond showcasing their works, students engaged in critical defence sessions. Each group responded to probing questions on:
- Choice of Titles – ensuring relevance and appeal to young readers.
- Aesthetic Design – explaining the rationale behind cover colours and layout.
- Pedagogical Value – demonstrating how the content connects to learners’ backgrounds and aligns with specific class levels.
Expert Oversight
The exercise was coordinated by Mr. Gershon K. Ladzekpo, Course Lecturer and College Assessment Officer. The judging panel was chaired by the College Registrar, Francis P. Ankrah, Esq. whose background as a journalist and former English teacher brought a sharp professional lens to the assessment. He was supported by the College Chaplain, Mr. Joshua Dugah, Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Science.
Inspiring Words
After four hours of intense presentations, the judges offered words of encouragement. Mr. Ankrah urged students to view book writing as a viable career path with “immense prospects,” challenging them to use their manuscripts to launch reading programmes during their upcoming Level 400 Out-Segment Teaching Practice. He further encouraged the students to extend their writing skills beyond literature by assisting peers in Science, Vocational C Technical, and Mathematics programmes to develop explanatory, easy-to-read write-ups that simplify complex concepts for learners. The panel expressed optimism that such creative initiatives could attract sponsors and stakeholders to support mass production of the students’ works.
A Call to Collaboration
Closing the event, Mr. Gershon K. Ladzekpo thanked the judging panel for their dedication. He left the students with a final charge: “Take every piece of advice to heart. Learn the power of teamwork and never hesitate to seek expert critique for your manuscripts.”
