The Vocational and Technical Department of Ada College of Education (ADACoE) made history on Wednesday, 18th June, 2026, as it held its Maiden Staff and Student Durbar at the Dining Hall Extension. The event brought together staff members, Student Representative Council (SRC) executives, class representatives, and students for an open dialogue aimed at fostering unity, transparency, and academic excellence within the department.
The programme commenced with a brief opening session, after which the moderator, Mr. Emil Attah, a Level 300 Technical student, formally introduced the staff members and SRC executives present.

The highlight of the durbar was the address delivered by Ms. Pamela Nyadroh, Acting Head of the Vocational and Technical Department. In her remarks, she described the durbar as a historic milestone, the very first of its kind in the department. She emphasised that its purpose was to create a space where every student feels seen, every staff member feels valued, and every voice feels heard.

She commended both students and staff for their hardworking spirits and called on individuals and organisations to support the department through links, connections, and resources. Ms. Nyadroh also made a significant announcement, revealing that Management has officially allocated the old Science Laboratory to the department as its new departmental space, with renovation and fitting works already underway.
Reflecting on the college motto, Ms. Nyadroh challenged students and staff alike to embody its three core pillars:
- Curiosity: Go beyond the classroom, ask meaningful questions, and dare to explore and experiment. The questions of today may become the solutions of tomorrow.
- Awareness: Pay close attention to your studies, strengths, colleagues, and community. An aware student is an empowered student, and an empowered student becomes a leader.
- Compassion: Be kind and support struggling colleagues – not in the examination hall, but outside of it. The disciplines of Technical Skills, Visual Arts, and Home Economics are fundamentally centred on human wellbeing. Compassion is at the very core of what the department studies.

Togbui Asamoah V also addressed the gathering. He utilized a thought-provoking triangle framework built around three key pillars: skills, character, and connections, urging students to develop all three as essential tools for professional success.

The SRC President, Mr. Solomon Tornyi, delivered remarks on behalf of the student body. He commended the department for organising such a wonderful programme and called for more initiatives of this nature to promote collaboration between lecturers and students in fostering innovation and skill development. He further assured the department of the SRC’s continued support for its programmes and activities.
A lively and engaging interaction session facilitated by Mr. Williams Brobbey followed, during which students were grouped into teams to discuss key matters relating to their academic experience and professional development. Group representatives presented their findings to the house, generating rich and candid conversations that reflected the students’ passion and commitment to their education.

Staff members responded thoughtfully to each issue raised, with clear commitments made to address students’ needs through the appropriate channels. Mr. Brobbey closed the session by engaging students on their career aspirations and reinforcing key points discussed during the durbar.

Other staff members present at the durbar included Mr. Courage Dovi and Mr. Joseph Padi. Among the SRC executives in attendance were Ms. Confidence Ahadjie and Ms. Paulina Takyi, the immediate past SRC Vice President and Women’s Commissioner respectively, as well as the current Women’s Commissioner, Ms. Belinda Bukor-Narh.

The Maiden Vocational and Technical Department Durbar marks a defining moment in the department’s history; a bold step towards open communication, student-centred leadership, and a shared vision for excellence at Ada College of Education.
The durbar is expected to be held regularly as part of the department’s commitment to continuous improvement and meaningful engagement with both staff and students.
