“Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude.”— Zig Ziglar

Mr. Fianu assumed office as Principal on 22nd March 1985, succeeding the late Mr. E.A. Ocansey, and served with distinction until 13th October 1992, when he transitioned to the Volta Regional Directorate. In those seven formative years, he left an indelible mark on our college’s infrastructure, culture, and spirit.
A Builder of Legacy
- Under his stewardship, all students were housed on campus, fostering unity and discipline.
- He spearheaded the construction of the Multipurpose Assembly Hall Complex and the strategic road linking Redemption Hall to the kitchen, funded through internally generated resources and community appeals.
These were not mere buildings; they were monuments to his vision of a cohesive, dignified learning environment.
A Principal Who Taught

Although he held the highest office, Mr. Fianu never distanced himself from the classroom. He personally organized evening prep classes for final-year students, embodying the belief that leadership must serve. His morning devotions were not routine, they were moments of reflection, guidance, and moral clarity. He often began his addresses with this timeless reminder:
“Success means doing the best with what we have. Success is the doing, not the getting; in the trying, not the triumph…”
A Father to All
Mr. Fianu was a disciplinarian, but always a father first. He knew students by name, and his presence in town was enough to restore order. He personally supervised students on internal suspension, ensuring not just punishment but true reformation. His approach was firm, fair, and deeply human.
Champion of Professionalism

As Secretary to the Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF), he elevated Ada Training College’s profile nationwide. His handouts in Educational Studies became sought-after resources, and his advice to tutors; “Don’t write anonymous letters; write books,” was both witty and wise.
He valued student leadership, nurturing it with seriousness and respect. He believed that every student had the potential to lead, and every tutor had the duty to inspire.
Farewell to a Pillar of Purpose
Mr. Fianu was not just a Principal. He was, at different times, a college driver, a counsellor, a father, and always, a visionary disciplinarian. His life reminds us that greatness is not in titles, but in service. As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate a legacy that continues to shape Ada College’s ethos. His voice echoes in our halls, his values live in our systems, and his spirit endures in every student who dares to dream.Mr. J.N.K. Fianu, may your soul rest in perfect peace.
Your altitude was high because your attitude was noble. We salute you.
