Ada College of Education has officially reopened for the 2024/2025 academic year, welcoming a fresh cohort of first-year students on January 30th, 2025. The reopening follows a revised schedule set by the National Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF) after the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) declared a strike. Additionally, the Colleges of Education Non-Teaching Staff Association of Ghana (CENTSAG) signaled their intent to embark on industrial action, necessitating a review of the academic calendar.
Initially, the college was scheduled to reopen on January 13, 2025, but the postponement was necessary to ensure a smooth transition for both staff and students. PRINCOF has since reaffirmed its commitment to addressing the concerns raised by CETAG and CENTSAG while minimizing disruptions to academic activities. In a statement, PRINCOF apologized for any inconvenience caused and assured students and parents that measures were in place to maintain a stable academic environment.
A Warm Welcome for First-Year Students
The arrival of first-year students was met with excitement and optimism, as faculty and senior students extended a warm welcome to the new entrants. The college administration, in collaboration with the Students’ Representative Council (SRC), has organized an extensive orientation program scheduled for 30th to 31st Janauary, 2025. The orientation introduced students to the college’s academic structure, rules and regulations, the role of both teaching and non-teaching department/unit, hostel facilities, and available extracurricular activities.
Addressing the new students, the Vice Principal of Ada College of Education welcomed the students and encouraged them to embrace the institution’s core values of discipline, dedication, and excellence. He assured them of the college’s unwavering commitment to providing a conducive learning environment that fosters both academic and personal development.
Preparations for a Successful Academic Year
The college administration has taken significant steps to ensure that both academic and non-academic activities proceed without disruption. Lecture halls, libraries, and hostels have been fully prepared to accommodate students, and teaching and non-teaching staff have been briefed on their roles in ensuring a seamless semester.
As an institution dedicated to training future educators, Ada College of Education continues to uphold its reputation for delivering quality teacher education. The college remains committed to equipping students with the necessary pedagogical skills, leadership qualities, and practical experience required for success in Ghana’s education sector.
With the academic year officially underway, both faculty and students are optimistic about a productive and fulfilling semester. The college looks forward to seeing its students thrive academically and socially, as they embark on their journey to becoming professional educators.
